Africa-Press – Angola. The National Director of Sports, Matos Cardoso, highlighted on Tuesday in Luanda the reaffirmation of Angola on the African and international stage, demonstrating its capacity to organize large-scale sporting events.
The official made the statement on the sidelines of the opening of the 9th African Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Championship hosted by the country.
“We will continue to provide our support and encouragement so that Angola continues to host sporting events, raising the level of national sport,” he stressed.
Holding the World Championship in September is proof of its capacity to host major events, promising that the Ministry of Youth and Sports guarantees support in order to meet the expectations of the organizers and the general public.
Despite the financial difficulties the country faces, Matos Cardoso highlighted the holding international sporting events, such as 33 competitions in 2025, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of national independence.
The 9th edition of the African MMA Championship takes places from April 14 to 19 in Luanda at the Cidadela Arena.
The participating teams are Angola, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Algeria, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Zambia, South Africa, Ghana, Mauritius and Republic of Congo.
