Africa-Press – Angola. The public prosecutor at the Soyo District Court, Maria Fernanda, defended, on Wednesday, the expansion of the Kivanda prison, located in the commune of Mangue Grande.
With an installed capacity of 220 inmates, the Kivanda prison currently has a prison population of 402 inmates.
According to the judge, who was speaking at the meeting of bodies involved in the administration of justice in the region, the lack of space in that prison establishment could contribute to the emergence of some pathologies within the penal population.
In addition to the expansion, the person responsible also defended the reinstatement of the current building, which is in an advanced state of degradation, to give a different image to the Kivanda prison unit.
Maria Fernanda advocated, on the other hand, the need to increase four more Public Prosecutor’s Office magistrates to deal with the procedural process in the district.
He added that the current seven judges placed in the region, in addition to Soyo, also serve the municipalities of Nóqui, Tomboco and Nzeto.
Topics such as the role of the judge of guarantee, minors in conflict with the law, among others, dominated the work of the meeting of members of the bodies involved in the administration of justice in the province of Zaire.
