Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, declared, this Monday, in Luanda, that the Executive was committed to expanding a more robust, efficient, humanized health system and creating decent working conditions.
Speaking to the press during the reopening of the Neves Bendinha Specialized General Hospital, he emphasized that the country currently has two thousand health units and, of these, eight are central hospitals, 32 provincial and around 228 municipal hospitals.
In addition, the Vice-President of the Republic said there is a large number of eradication of medical posts for a primary proximity care service at the level of communes and districts.
“We are on a path that we would like to continue with everyone’s participation and it has been a pressing concern of President João Lourenço, who wants to see the health sector increasingly robust, efficient and more modern and advanced”, he stressed.
Esperança da Costa noted that the country is making significant progress in terms of quantity, but challenges still remain that require concrete and sustainable solutions.
He made it known that while progress is being made to maximize hospital units, the Executive is also focusing on the issue of human capital and the creation of improved conditions for health professionals.
He recalled that, in recent years, the supervisory ministry has held several public tenders for the health sector across the country.
“Today we have around 30 thousand new health professionals hired, but the big challenge now is their training and we are working with precise goals in the field of specialization in the various aspects and areas in this and other hospitals spread across the country”, he highlighted.
Appeal to humanized services
The Vice-President of the Republic appealed, on the occasion, to all health professionals in the country to be increasingly committed to the work they carry out.
“That they are always based on ethics and professionalism, that they provide more humanized services and show more love to others. We are dealing with human lives, which must be preserved”, he expressed,
Esperança da Costa said, on the other hand, that it is necessary to work consistently in hospital management, assets, equipment and pharmaceuticals, also calling on users to participate in the maintenance of health units.
Satisfaction with modernized services
Esperança da Costa expressed satisfaction with the reopening of the health unit with around 80 beds and cutting-edge technology equipment, considering it a result of strategic options by the Executive, which wants to see the health sector increasingly optimized and efficient.
“We left here satisfied because we reopened the Neves Bendinha Hospital, known as the Queimados Hospital, which is a great tribute to the Angolan nationalist Neves Bendinha.
It is important to know that the hospital has cutting-edge equipment and will be able to carry out differentiated diagnostic analysis, as well as provide a humanized and efficient response to demand, that is, from the mildest to the most complex burns.
The ceremony was attended by the widow (Lídia de Brito Teixeira) and family members of the nationalist Neves Bendinha, whose name was given to the specialized hospital for the treatment of burns.

Neves Adão Bendinha, Angolan nationalist, was born on November 10, 1936 in the village of Guinza, Icolo and Bengo, and died on May 15, 1961.
He was a hero whose actions went beyond bravery, selflessness and total dedication to the nationalist cause. He was a great mobilizer of the masses, stirring them up to revolt against the Salazarist regime.
