Vice-governor of Huambo wants ecological city

Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-governor of Huambo for Technical Services and Infrastructures, Elmano Inácio, appealed, this Wednesday, in this city, to the population’s commitment to making the province more ecological, taking into account the need to fight against climate change.

To this end, the government official requested the support of the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, when she visited the facilities of the Center for Tropical Ecology and Climate Change (CETAC), having also mentioned Morro do Moco for ecological rehabilitation.

Elmano Inácio considered the current state of the environment reasonable in the province, as Huambo has “marks” of ecological capital and there is an urgent need to return the status, which is why he invited Esperança da Costa to be the “godmother” of the project.

He pointed out as the central base of the project the botanical garden, located in front of CETAC, commonly called the greenhouse, which should serve as the epicenter of the revival of this plan.

He said that the province has been developing very safe aspects in the discussion to conclude this plan, which has already progressed by 90%, but currently, due to the degree of vandalization, it has degraded and stands at around 60%.

“We would like to publicly address an express request to His Excellency to be the godmother of this flag, so that we can then return to the city of Huambo the object that serves as an ecological capital”, he highlighted.

During his speech, Elmano Inácio spoke of the main difficulties facing the center and called for greater investments.

The greenhouse, located close to the institution, occupies an area of four and a half hectares and encompasses several species of ornamental and forest plants, particularly eucalyptus, pine, jacaranda and cedar.
