Africa-Press – Angola. The general secretary of the MPLA, Paulo Pombolo, highlighted, this Thursday, in Huambo, the importance of CANFEU in promoting patriotism and cultural exchange among youth, with a focus on exercising the values of national unity.
The politician was speaking at the opening of the 19th edition of the National Holiday Camp for University Students (CANFEU), an initiative of the JMPLA National Secretariat, held at the Osvaldo Serra-Van Dunem multipurpose pavilion, in the interior of the city of Huambo, under the motto “University Youth love the country and make Angola grow”.
On the occasion, Paulo Pombolo said that the event is a space for cultural interaction, debates and promotion of principles, with the aim of giving young people the opportunity to learn about the country’s potential and, equally, involving them in the implementation of programs of national reconstruction.
The concept of Homeland, according to the politician, involves public order, defense and security, consolidation of peace and common well-being, within the framework of improving national interests.
He made it known that CANFEU is the result of the peace agreements, signed on April 4, 2002, which precipitated the holding of its first edition in Huambo, in the same year, by young people, in a period when the marks of the conflict were still visible. armed.
The MPLA general secretary recalled that in 2002 the country only had one public higher education institution (Agostinho Neto University) and three private ones (Católica, Jean Piaget and the Private University of Angola), in four provincial capitals.
He said it is a sector in which the country has made qualitative leaps, from 2002 to the present date, with more than 80 recognized institutions, of which 24 in the public sector and the rest in the private sector, training, on average, over 15 thousand young people, many of which participants in CANFEU.
Therefore, he continued, the MPLA advocates in its programs an Education system with higher quality, efficient and integrated, involving all teaching subsystems, in accordance with the need to train national staff, with the improvement of exit profiles, to rapid insertion into the job market.
Scheduled to end on Sunday, CANFEU will take place on one of the farms in the municipality of Caála, with the expectation of bringing together more than a thousand young people, representing the country’s 18 provinces.
Overall, the 19th edition of CANFEU holds, among others, conferences with themes related to the country’s socio-political and economic development, cultural and gastronomic exhibitions, a blood donation campaign and visits to a number of tourist sites and infrastructures in Huambo.
The 18th edition of CANFEU took place from August 1st to 4th, 2022, in Luanda, the country’s capital, with the province of Cabinda as the winner.
