Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, announced this Thursday, in the province of Huambo, a fund of 200 million US dollars to increase access to higher education in the country and guarantee quality in this subsystem.

Esperança da Costa, who was speaking during a meeting with the academic community, as part of a working visit to this province, informed that the fund was authorized by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in partnership with the World Bank.

According to the Vice-President, the fund also aims to strengthen the management of new courses, postgraduate courses, curricular harmonization and gender equity.

Esperança da Costa said that it is also an objective to safeguard the quality of the education sub-system, at the level of general education, which is why investment will be made in the Higher Institutes of Educational Sciences (ISCED).

He highlighted as priorities the ISCED in the provinces of Huambo, Huíla, Uíge and the Escola Superior Pedagógica do Bengo, as well as the focus on digital skills.

“The Executive will continue to invest in training staff in our academy”, he stated, highlighting that Huambo has always been recognized as one of the largest academic centers in Angola, alongside Luanda and Huíla.

Likewise, he said that the Government remains committed to finding solutions to the population’s difficulties, so that they can experience a better life and have a brighter future.

Working in the province since Wednesday, the Vice-President said she witnessed the evolution of Huambo in several aspects, especially the remarkable progress in the higher education subsystem, for which she expressed satisfaction.

This Thursday, the day of listening to concerns in some higher education institutions continued, namely the faculties of Agricultural Sciences, Medicine, Law, the Polytechnic Institute, the Special Training School, ISCED, at the Caminho Training Center -de-Ferro de Benguela (CFB) and at the Huambo municipal hospital.

For Friday, the last day of your visit to the province, you are scheduled to travel to the municipality of Cachiungo, where you will visit the works on the university campus, the evangelical mission, the water treatment plant and will meet with women from rural areas.
