SIC arrests citizens for indiscriminate slaughter of animals in Moxico

Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) presented, this Friday, in Luena, Moxico province, six nationals, involved in the illegal slaughter of hundreds of animals of various species.

According to the SIC spokesperson in Moxico, Elisiário dos Passos, the crime, which involves the aforementioned citizens, including two ladies, who are dedicated to selling dried meat, occurred in the town of Luzi, municipality of Luchazes, south of Luena.

According to the person responsible, victims of this poaching include the brown sable, wild boar, porcupine, species whose hunting is prohibited.

Given the seriousness of poaching, the person responsible said that the accused will be presented to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) for legal proceedings.

The province, with an area of ​​223,023 km2, occupying 16.03% of the national territorial extension, has a flora and fauna made up of several species of animals, with emphasis on water birds, pacaças, sables, jaguars, lions, leopards, foxes, elephants, gazelle, hyenas among others.

Many of these animals have the Cameia National Park as their habitat, located east of the municipality with the same name (Cameia).
