Africa-Press – Angola. Angola hosts, in October 2024, the 8th Dialogue Conference on Migration for Southern Africa (MIDSA), focusing on the security of the common border and the movement of people and goods.

This is one of the recommendations made at the ministerial session of the 7th Dialogue Conference on Migration for Southern Africa, which ended on Friday afternoon, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to a note, when speaking at the session, the Secretary of State for Public Administration, Amélia Varela, highlighted the privileged relationships of the Member States, which can be used to adopt platforms and mechanisms of action concerted effort, regarding the management of migratory flows within the SADC space.

Amélia Varela, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security, Teresa Dias, highlighted that coordinated work between Member States constitutes the best mechanism that migration management bodies can devise, with a view to discouraging irregular immigration, often associated with transnational crime and other international phenomena that undermine the principle of legality and social peace.

Over the years, MIDSA has achieved concrete results, including progressive policy recommendations for implementation as well as the establishment of stronger partnerships.

MIDSA is an annual event organized by the current SADC Presidents, with biannual ministerial meetings since 2010.

Between 2000 and 2023, a total of 21 conferences were convened on various thematic issues related to migration. MIDSA recommendations are presented to SADC for implementation.
