Africa-Press – Angola. The Criminal Investigation Service arrested, last weekend, in the municipality of Cubal, province of Benguela, a 28-year-old citizen in possession of 877 cannabis plants (liamba).
According to the SIC spokesperson in Benguela, chief investigation inspector Francisco Vieira, the citizen, implicated in the crime of drug trafficking, is still in possession of 80 kilograms of marijuana ready to be sold.
The official added that, during the period under review, a 27-year-old citizen was also arrested for stealing four two-meter-long rails, stolen from inside a fishing yard in the fishing town of Baía Farta.
In the municipality of Bocoio, as part of the “Quissonde” operation, 12 railway tracks, two oxygen cylinders and one butane gas cylinder were seized, which had been stolen by criminals.
Along the same lines, the Provincial Command of the National Police in Benguela detained a 36-year-old citizen, found in possession of 500 kilograms of copper electrical cables, allegedly resulting from acts of sabotage of the electrical network in the province of Huíla.
According to information provided by the spokesperson for the local PN command, superintendent Ernesto Tchiwale, the suspect claims to have acquired the cables from unknown people.
The spokesperson added that he has already been sent to the public magistrate to legalize his prison situation.
During the period in question, 15 road accidents were recorded, resulting in five deaths and 23 injuries.
According to the official, compared to the previous period, there was an increase of two deaths, the same number of accidents and six more injuries.
Accidents include being run over, skidding, collisions between cars and motorcycles, as well as collisions between cars.
Administratively, the municipalities of Benguela and Lobito were the most targeted, recording five and four accidents, respectively.
