Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of National Defense and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade”, guaranteed, this Wednesday, in Luena, Moxico province, control and stability in the Eastern Region of the country.
The leader was speaking to the press after a joint meeting with the ministers of the Interior, Eugénio César Laborinho, of the Territorial Administration, Dionísio da Fonseca, and the governors of the provinces of Cuando Cubango, Lundas Sul, Lunda Norte and Moxico, held in the city of Luena .
The meeting, following guidance from the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, aimed to analyze the current state of the region, following the recording of a riot in the province of Lunda Sul, caused by a group of citizens against State institutions.
On the occasion, João Ernesto “Liberdade” reported that the socio-political situation in the region is stable, guaranteeing the normal functioning of institutions.
“Angola is a single and indivisible country (…) and does not allow a group of adventurous citizens to reverse public order”, highlighted the leader.
According to the minister, taking into account the behavior of the aforementioned citizens, the forces of order and public security took all necessary measures to restore order and social stability in the region, calling on the population to remain vigilant to prevent such actions. .
As a result of these acts, at least 137 people were detained, in Saurimo, in the province of Lunda Sul, by the National Police, when they allegedly intended to attack State institutions.
According to a statement from the National Police, 92 men and 45 women were arrested, aged between 19 and 78 years.
The statement from the National Police did not specify the real reasons that led those involved to subvert the order, but states that they were equipped with materials such as sticks and stones which they threw at the officers and destroyed the windows of two of the corporation’s vehicles.
Similar meetings have already been held in the provinces of Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul and Moxico, with the next one scheduled for the province of Cuando Cubango.
