Africa-Press – Angola. The National Diamond Trading Company of Angola (SODIAM E. P) raised USD 22.3 million by selling 1,329.89 carats of diamonds at auction.
The 7th rough diamond auction, held at the SODIAM facilities in Luanda, featured productions from the mining companies of Lulo, Kaixepa, Somiluana, Catoca and Luele.
According to the press release, the diamond auction, whose evaluation sessions took place from the 3rd to the 10th of this month, included the presentation of proposals until 10 am on the 1st of October, submitted electronically on the online platform www.transatlanticgemsales.com .
The president of the Board of Directors (PCA) of SODIAM, Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, said that it was possible to raise revenue above producers’ expectations, which demonstrates the existence of an acceptable demand on the international market for certain categories of stones.
A diverse set of special stones were up for bidding, one (01) from Sociedade Mineira do Somiluana, which yielded around USD 1.53 million, seven (7) from Sociedade Mineira do Lulo which was worth USD 15.7 million, 18 from Sociedade Mineira do Kaixepa which benefited from USD 2.04 million, seven (7) from Sociedade Mineira do Catoca which yielded USD 2.07 million and three (3) from Sociedade Mineira do Luele which obtained USD 966.9 thousand.
In this edition, 37 companies from the main diamond markets in the world participated in the auction.
In the current auction format, for the act of purchasing diamonds, participating companies present their bids remotely, in a closed model, on the “online” electronic platform from the website www.transatlanticgemsales.com, a model that generates greater transparency and competitiveness to the commercialization process, within the scope of the guidelines of Presidential Decree 175/18 of 27 July.
Founded in 1999, SODIAM EP is the state-owned company responsible for commercializing Angola’s diamond production.
The productions sold by SODIAM EP result from eighteen kimberlite and alluvial productions and cover the entire spectrum of qualities, with regard to their sizes, models, purity and colors.
