CICA donates more than five thousand tons of food to drought victims

Africa-Press – Angola. Five thousand and 556 tons of food, in support of drought victims in the province of Cunene, were donated by the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA), with a view to contributing to improving the diet.

The donation resulting from a campaign to collect 11 thousand and 113 tons of food, intended to assist populations affected by the lack of rain in the provinces of Cunene and Huíla, includes rice, corn flour, beans, oil and salt.

The information was provided this Saturday, by the CICA representative in Cunene, Reverend João Gimbi, stating that the donation is expected to assist close to nine thousand households in the municipalities of Cahama, Ombadja, Cuanhama, Namacunde and Cuvelai, at a rate of one thousand 800 families by municipality.

According to the prelate, the goods are currently available at municipal headquarters, whose official distribution process takes place in the municipality of Humpata (Huíla).

He made it known that the action is in partnership with faith-based organizations such as the Lutheran Federation and the Norwegian Church, which noted, last May, the high degree of vulnerability of some families, due to the cyclical drought situation.

This gesture of solidarity, he added, expresses love for the people most in need, ensuring the continuity of the process, which is why he called for the involvement of communities in order to cultivate habits of solidarity.

CICA is a non-profit organization that brings together 22 Christian churches and two faith-based organizations, all recognized by the Angolan government.
