PGR wins international asset recovery award

Africa-Press – Angola. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) was awarded on Thursday (12), in Porto Luís (Mauritius), with the International Prize for Asset Recovery and Combating Recovery, in Economic and Financial crimes.

According to a PGR note, the awarding of the Prize took place on the sidelines of the General Assembly of Members of the Inter-Agency Asset Recovery Network for Southern Africa (ARINSA), which took place on 11 on October 13th of this year.

The document highlights that winning this Award demonstrates international recognition of the commitment of the PGR and other State institutions and, in particular, of the Angolan people, in combating acts that indicate the practice of crimes of an economic and financial nature that are harmful to public assets.

Since the beginning of his first term, in 2017, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, has chosen the fight against corruption, nepotism, sycophancy and impunity as the main evils to combat.

For the statesman, these evils must be combated, as they affect investor confidence, undermine Angola’s reputation and productivity, which is why several actions have been developed since then to achieve them.

As a result, from 2019 to date, the PGR’s National Asset Recovery Service (SENRA) has already recovered cash, shareholdings, real estate and other movable assets, valued at USD 7 billion.

Likewise, in the same period, SENRA seized and requested the seizure of monetary values, shareholdings, real estate and other movable assets worth more than USD 12 billion that are awaiting a court decision.
