Africa-Press – Angola. Four thousand and 73 places are available in the new “Women’s Market”, which begins to be filled Wednesday, with more than a thousand vendors coming from various parts of Luanda.
The market, which sells products mainly to women, operated for years in the Urban District of 11 de Novembro, in the municipality of Cazenga, and was deactivated, in the first quarter of this year, by the owner of the space.
The new space, when completed, will provide salespeople, in addition to wooden countertops, with accommodation space to store merchandise, in the form of warehouses, kiosks and toilets.
The traders, who have already started their activity unofficially, said that they now have the dignity of selling in a safe place despite the works not yet being completed.
The head of the Women’s Association, responsible for the new market, Teresa Leitão, said that the conditions for commerce were created, as it has piped water, electricity from an alternative source, bathrooms and warehouses.
She highlighted that the works continue as more buildings are yet to be completed, to adequately accommodate other vendors as well as the proper functioning of the commercial space.
The traders praised the new market and appealed to customers to go to the space that offers better conditions compared to the previous one.
On the other hand, she reported that during the construction phase of the new space, some were at home for approximately 40 days and others were selling products in backyards surrounding the old market.
Maria da Trindade, who sells women’s pants and shoes, said she was pleased with the start of sales because they were in a precarious situation, and now she feels at ease.
Feliciana Contreiras highlighted that the new market continues to be equipped and equipped with benches for a good business environment, which is why it was opened for the sale of products available to everyone. “It brought relief to families who depend on it,” she said.
Trade Reordering
For him, the reorganization of commerce must continue to remove people who trade in inappropriate places.
In an interview with the Press, during a visit to check out the new space, the Governor of the Provincial of Luanda, Manuel Homem, highlighted that the relocation of the saleswomen in this market was urgent, as they already had a satisfactory level of organization.
On site, Manuel Homem checked the progress of the works and listened to salespeople about the difficulties or constraints that still exist and how this process of change can continue to be facilitated.
He added, at the time, that as part of the commercial reorganization process carried out by the government, that private location was identified, but they are taking care of the issues of the ladies’ stay in the premises.
“We are also working, our provincial office is discussing with the owner of this space the possibility of establishing an agreement with a time that justifies the permanence of this location as a space to carry out commerce under these conditions”, informed the manager , highlighting that there is an interest in the stability of the activity carried out there.
The Commerce Reorganization Plan, underway along Cónego Manuel das Neves avenues, the surrounding area of São Paulo (Urban District of Sambizanga) and Ngola Kiluanje (Urban District of Hoji Ya Henda), aims, among others, to restore legality of formal and informal trade, along the roads of the province of Luanda, with around 300 stores and warehouses having already been closed due to irregular trade practices.
