Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, Wednesday, in Luanda, about the Lobito Refinery construction project, during a hearing granted to the PCA of the Chinese state-owned China National Chemical Engineering (CNCE), Weng Gang.
At the end of the hearing, Weng Gang told the press that it served, mainly, to approach the Lobito refinery contract, guarantee its reconstruction and expansion, as well as the delivery of the work before the end of 2026.
In turn, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said that the experience of working with CNCE is positive, as it worked on expanding the Luanda Refinery, to increase production capacity of gasoline.
According to the government official, Sonangol technicians had the opportunity to visit refineries built by CNCE and assess the quality of the works, with another great advantage, in relation to the competition, being the reduced time for delivery of the work.
It is a company with considerable experience in the construction of petrochemical refining projects, continued the minister.
We thought we should work with her on the construction of the Lobito Refinery, that’s why her PCA is here to sign the construction contract with Sonangol on Friday (20), he added.
Also according to Diamantino Azevedo, as it is a project that has been on hold for some time, Sonangol carried out a study to lower the cost of carrying out the work, setting it at 6 billion US dollars. This study was carried out by an American company that had initially designed the project.
Once delivered, the Lobito Refinery will have the capacity to process 200 thousand barrels per day.
