Africa-Press – Angola. The accumulated debt of customers to the Public Sanitation and Water Company in Moxico (EPAS) is valued at 40 million kwanzas, PRESS in Luena learned this Saturday.

According to the head of the Commercial Department at EPAS/Moxico, Albertina Damaso, who spoke on the sidelines of the opening of a service store in the “Heróis de Cangamba” Centrality, the debt has been dragging on since 2015, when the opening process began of the first contracts with customers.

She added that this public institution has promoted awareness campaigns, with a view to reducing debt, mainly on the outskirts of Luena, where, according to the person responsible, the majority of debtors are concentrated.

To reverse this situation, he said that the process of implementing meters in homes is underway, to ensure better control and management of water consumption.

In addition, he reiterated that there is a debt forgiveness campaign underway for customers who have a connection to the network, but have not signed a contract.

EPAS currently controls more than six thousand customers in its database, of which four thousand are registered in the first phase of home connections.

In the city of Luena, inhabited by 468 thousand 369 people, EPAS has seven connections in its registry, of which five thousand 800 are active, with only 60 percent having signed the contract.
