Africa-Press – Angola. The director of the Penitentiary Establishment of the District of Cabinda, Avelino António, ruled out, this Monday, in this city, the existence of cases of excessive preventive detention in the penitentiary unit, in Cabinda, better known as the Civil Prison.
Avelino António, made these statements at the end of the visit of the Deputy Attorney General of the Republic and accompanying coordinator of the Northern Judiciary region, João Luís Coelho, to the prison establishment.
At the time, the Public Prosecutor’s Office judge considered the operational situation within the region’s criminal population to be calm and controlled and admitted the existence of “some slowness” in the processing of cases in the judicial phase.
The prison was built with the capacity to house 100 inmates, but due to crime rates in the province, there was an increase of another 55 inmates.
Of these, 89 are serving a preventive prison sentence, 76 in the preparatory investigation phase, 13 in the judicial phase, 67 convicted.
The most frequent crimes include robbery, fraud, theft and sexual abuse.
The Deputy Attorney General of the Republic and accompanying Coordinator of the Northern Judicial Region, João Luís Coelho, is on a three-day working visit to Cabinda to listen to the concerns that concern the sector in the region.
