Africa-Press – Angola. The National Police (PN) in Huíla has been, since Monday, in Lubango, promoting a series of lectures aimed at primary school and 1st cycle secondary school students to prevent and discourage drug use.
The campaign called “Teenagers say no to drugs”, runs until November 3rd, with the aim of raising awareness among the target group about the consequences of illicit drug trafficking and consumption, as well as preventing and discouraging such practices.
In this first phase, students from grades 5 to 9 from 20 schools were covered, with emphasis on the 14 de Abril School Complex, 27 de Março and Portuguese schools, as well as the Pitágoras, Cleusia Alexandra and Pedra Escrita schools.
Speaking about the activity, the PN spokesperson in Huíla, inspector Benedito Walter, stated that the campaign arises due to the corporation’s concern regarding the number of teenagers and young people involved in the use, trafficking and consumption of drugs, many of them students .
The source stated that among the visible psychological consequences, a student who uses drugs runs the risk of depression and uncontrolled anxiety, as well as psychological disorders that make him disrespect teachers, classmates and prone to the world of crime, committing robberies and theft, as well as aggression towards colleagues.
“We have noticed that many teenagers are involved in the world of drugs, especially cannabis consumption, and this is our motivation to minimize such cases. The impetus for committing crimes is the use of drugs”, she reinforced.
He made it known that in this first phase the “Adolescent say no to drugs” campaign will only be limited to Lubango, while the next stages will take place in other municipalities in the province.
