Africa-Press – Angola. The deputy to the National Assembly (AN) Lizete Gonga praised, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the evolution of gender parity in Africa, highlighting Angola as an example in this regard.
Speaking about the debate on “Gender Parity”, which is taking place on the sidelines of the 147th General General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), the deputy recalled that 31 percent of the Angolan Parliament is made up of women, with emphasis on their president, Carolina Cerqueira.
He also highlighted the fact that the position of vice-president of the Republic in Angola is held by a woman, Esperança da Costa.
According to the parliamentarian, the country has taken the issue of women taking their position within the framework of meritocracy very seriously.
He highlighted the fact that the specialized working committees of the National Assembly on Economy and Finance and Defense and Security are occupied by women.
The technical work of the biggest inter-parliamentary event is taking place at the Palace of the National Assembly, which becomes “the legislative capital of the world”, until next Friday.
