Africa-Press – Angola. Long distance runners Salviano Faria (Petro de Luanda) and Ernestina Paulino (Interclube) won the cross-country race this Saturday, which marked the opening of the 2023/24 season in the province of Huíla.
Salviano Faria covered the six kilometers in 19 minutes, 06 seconds and 85 tenths, followed by David Elias, from Interclube, in 19 minutes, 23 seconds and 12 tenths. Closing the podium was Fernando Cambinda, from Petro de Luanda, with a time of 19 minutes, 26 seconds and five tenths.
Ernestina Paulino (Interclube) completed the six kilometer route with a time of 21 minutes, 58 seconds and 44 tenths, followed by Joana Aleica (Petro de Luanda), with 22 minutes, 22 seconds and 47 tenths, while third place went to Alda Paulo (Interclube), with 22 minutes, 45 seconds and 40 tenths.
In male juniors, the five km race was won by André Gabriel (Petro de Luanda), with 15 minutes, 06 seconds and 92 tenths, followed by Paulo Holewa, individual, with 15 minutes, 08 seconds and 20 tenths and Sebastião Kapenda (Petro de Luanda), with 15 minutes, 24 seconds and 51 tenths.
In the same category, but for women, in four km, Isabel Tiago (Inter da Huíla) was the first to cross the finish line in 17 minutes, 59 seconds and 27 tenths.
She was followed by Marlene Kapoco (Benfica do Lubango), with 17 minutes, 23 seconds and 30 tenths, closing the podium with Matilde Mukongo (also from Benfica do Lubango), with 17 minutes, 13 seconds and 78 tenths.

Males
1st João Baptista (Benfica do Lubango) – six minutes, 46 seconds and 58 tenths.
2nd Alberto Kalenga (São Pio) – six minutes, 59 seconds and 69 tenths.
3rd Manuel Yambi (Jamba Sport) – seven minutes, 06 seconds and 42 tenths.
Women
1st Matilde Capoco (Benfica do Lubango) – seven minutes, 34 seconds and 21 tenths
2nd Graciana Cabral (Benfica do Lubango) – nine minutes, 25 seconds and 48 tenths
The other two athletes withdrew after the match.

1st José Yambi (Jamba sport), four minutes, 04 seconds and 43 tenths
2nd Verissimo Mucuambi (Benfica do Lubango) – four minutes, 05 seconds and seven tenths
3rd Jerônimo Dumbo (Jamba Sport) – four minutes, 18 seconds and 43 tenths

1st Verónica Braz (Inter da Huíla) – four minutes, 20 seconds and 24 tenths
2nd Joaquina Chivela (Inter da Huíla) – four minutes, 32 seconds and 35 tenths
3rd Helena Yambi (Inter da Huíla) – four minutes, 33 seconds and ten tenths.
