Africa-Press – Angola. The ambassadors of Angola and South Africa to Ethiopia, Miguel César Domingos Bembe and Edward Xolisa Makaya, converged, this Tuesday, positions in relation to the main purposes of the AU, such as the promotion of unity, solidarity and cohesion and cooperation between the countries and peoples of Africa.
During a meeting, the two entities reflected on the ongoing reform process at the AU and the need to accelerate Agenda 2063, called “The Africa we want”, a plan for the socio-economic development and transformation of the African continent in a period 50 years (2013-2063), which comprises 7 aspirations, 20 objectives, 28 priority areas, 57 targets and 72 indicators.
Given the conclusion of the First Ten-Year Implementation Plan (FTYP) of Agenda 2063 this year, the two interlocutors proposed actions for the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (STYP), dubbed “the Special Project”.
Within the framework of the continent’s economic integration, ambassadors Miguel Bembe and Edward Makaya defended the acceleration of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA).
They rejoiced at the recent integration of the AU as a full member of the G20, assuming itself as a great force to guarantee international equity and justice. They outlined ideas regarding Angola’s mandate on the AU Peace and Security Council for the 2024-2026 biennium and the presidency of the continental organization in 2025.
The permanent representatives of the AU also analyzed in depth the functioning of the African Union Commission (AUC) and addressed the principles that should guide candidacies for the election of the next President.
The two diplomats emphasized that the AUC needs strong leadership, capable of guaranteeing the unity of the continental organization and responding to its major projects and challenges, based on the principles that governed its foundation.
In recent days, Ambassador Miguel Bembe held meetings of the same nature with his counterparts from Algeria, Lamina Laabas, from Mozambique, Ana Nemba Uaiene, and from Egypt, Mohamed Omar Gad, who praised the role that Angola has played in peace issues and security on the African continent, under the leadership of President João Lourenço, AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa.
