Africa-Press – Angola. The municipal administrator of Cuanhama, Cunene province, José Kalomo, praised, this Friday, the heroism and bravery demonstrated by Angolans in the fight to conquer and preserve national independence.
Speaking at the opening of the commemorative day of the 48th anniversary of National Independence, to be celebrated on 11 November, he praised the achievements of the fearless Angolan nationalists, who at the right time spared no effort and knew how to honor the land that saw them born, in favor of freedom.
José Kalomo said that the event is not just to celebrate the end of the colonial yoke, but must also be an occasion to pay deserved tribute to the promoters of freedom for their courage, bravery and spirit of selflessness, demonstrated in the defense of their homeland.
He argued that this courage of heroes should serve as a path to consolidating unity among Angolans, without distinction of color, race, religious creed and party affiliation, to reinforce National Identity.
As children of the same country, he continued, it is imperative that we preserve freedom, unity, territorial integrity and peace, the achievement of which cost the blood of our brothers.
“We need to immortalize the deeds of those who contributed to this greatest national achievement, reflecting on the enormous sacrifices made by the people, with a view to preserving National Independence”, he observed.
Under the motto “United for the Development of Angola”, the day encompasses a series of solidarity actions, sports, cleaning and awareness campaigns and debates.
The independence of Angola was proclaimed on November 11, 1975 by the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, in Largo 1° de Maio, in Luanda.
