The axis of the ANGOLA Long-Term Strategy – 2050, focusing on a diversified and prosperous economy, with emphasis on the sectors of agriculture, livestock, fishing, manufacturing industry, mineral resources and tourism, was highlighted by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

In his Message on the State of the Nation, on the occasion of the Solemn Opening Session of the 2023-2024 Parliamentary Year of the V Legislature, the Head of State stated that the path to transforming the economy is long, but it is being done with the vision , the conviction and dedication of all the daughters and sons of “our land”.

He highlighted that achieving food security is an objective if “we become aware that we need to work more, produce more, because regret alone does not bring bread to our table”.

Provisional data on agricultural production for 2023 present positive indicators, with growth expected in terms of global volumes across all crop sectors, with production expected to exceed that of 2022, the year in which growth of 5.5% was recorded. 7% compared to 2021.

João Lourenço recalled that in 2022 the country recorded a global production of 24,793,275 tons.

He highlighted that the relaunch of coffee production is already beginning to bear fruit, with production volume rising to 5 thousand tons in 2022, 1% above production in 2021.

At the moment, he continued, around 4 million and 700 thousand seedlings are being produced in several provinces, which will allow the planting of 2,350 hectares.

He assured that the Project to Improve the Performance and Growth of the MUCAFÉ Coffee Value Chain will be implemented with financing from the French Development Agency, to increase production volume, improve productivity and quality and enable producers to work together. and promotion of exports.

According to the President, in the field of livestock farming, from January to June this year, 103,721 tons of meat were produced, reaching an absolute increase of 1,075 tons, compared to the same period last year.

“We hope to reduce our dependence on the import of animal vaccines, with the construction of the Biodiversity Center and Vaccine Factory for cattle, poultry and goats in the province of Huambo, which is expected to be completed within the planned execution period”, he highlighted.

He added that he was pleased to see “in the current agricultural campaign, the start of wheat production by around 3,320 families and several businesspeople from different provinces. Although small, the expected production proves that it is possible to take the path towards reversing the wheat import situation, if we are bold and explore our potential to the limit.”
