Characterization of the region

Located in the north of Angola, the province of Bengo has as its capital the city of Caxito, in the municipality of Dande, and is the closest to Luanda.

With 429,322 inhabitants spread over 31,371 km2, the province is made up of six municipalities, namely Ambriz, Bula Atumba, Dande, Dembos, Nambuangongo and Pango Aluquém.

Bengo became a province on April 26, 1980, due to the separation from the province of Luanda.

Bengo makes available to the market, mainly in Luanda, more than 1.1 million tons/year of table bananas, according to 2022 data, made available by the provincial agriculture department.

In the province, in addition to very strong family productions, three of the country’s largest companies are active in banana production, namely Novagrolíder, Turiagro Vida Fresh, which was recently installed.
