Africa-Press – Angola. The victory of the World Endurance Championship of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), by Angolan Rui Andrade, was, this Sunday, praised by the Political Bureau of the MPLA Central Committee.
According to a note, in Luanda, it is hoped that the title achieved by the Angolan pilot will be a reason for encouragement and inspiration for young Angolans who, in other areas of practice and knowledge, contribute to raising the name of Angola abroad.
“By winning this title, Rui Andrade becomes the first Angolan and African to achieve such a feat, in a highly contested championship followed with enthusiasm by international motorsport fans, raising the national flag around the world”, it reads.
The “feat” of the 24-year-old pilot was also recognized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which considers the world title an act of pride for the country when it comes to international sporting events.
Rui Andrade won, on Saturday, the FIA World Endurance Championship, LMP2 class, in the “8 Hours of Bahrain”, in the last round of the race held in the city of Manama.
The Angolan was joined in the WRT team by the Polish Rober Kubica and the Swiss Louis Delétraz, who scored 173 points in total, after six races, in the same number of victories.
This is the second feat of such magnitude by the national runner and his team, after becoming European champions in 2021.
