Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Daniel Domingos’ victory over Australian Abhik Khatry, by two sets to zero, marked (Monday), in Luanda, the opening of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Circuit, held on the “courts” of the Kikuxi Villas Club (KVC) Academy, in the Municipality of Viana.
With scores of 6-0 and 6-4, the KVC player demonstrated greater competitive capacity compared to his opponent, previously considered a favorite, due to the development of the sport in his country.
15-year-old Daniel Domingos, who trained at the Felner Academy in Portugal, obtained 13th place at the beginning of this year in the African Championship, held in Algeria, where he achieved three victories in five singles matches.
Still on the first day of the international tournament, Angolan Roberto Matondo (Núcleo Jacquisa) beat Mozambican Afonso Santana, by double 6-0. Portuguese Rodrigo Duarte beat South African Reuben Lerne, 6-1-6-2.
In women’s competition, Angolan Dandara Roque (Clube Bananeira de Benguela) lost to Portuguese Carlota da Franca, 6-0.
The Tournament (J30), in two phases (Leg 1 and 2), which takes place from the 6th to the 10th and from the 13th to the 17th of November, brings together tennis players from Angola, South Africa, Australia, Botswana, France, India, Morocco, Mozambique , Poland, Portugal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ukraine and Zimbabwe.
Also called ITF World Tennis Tour J30 Luanda, the event organized by the Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT), with players aged between 13 and 18, looking for points for the ranking that allows them direct access to the Professional Tennis Association circuit (ATP).
This year, the country hosts the third international competition and this is the biggest, after the African Under-14 Circuit, in March, and the Kikuxi Open, in August, with the participation of athletes from the Southern Region of the continent. , won by Angolan Chris André, resident in Germany.
