Cultural moments liven up the inauguration of the new Airport

Africa-Press – Angola. Cultural moments animated the inauguration ceremony, this Friday, of the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN), honored by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.

After cutting the ribbon and unveiling the plaque, João Lourenço, accompanied by the first lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, carried out, in a symbolic way, the first “check in”, and then took a long tour of the modern airport.

At the AIAAN’s solemn opening ceremony, after witnessing the delivery of the airport’s provisional certificate, the Head of State attended a cultural moment, which began with the performance of the Capossoca symphony orchestra, which sang the National Anthem.

In a continuous act, the orchestra accompanied the lyrical singer Nelson Ebo, who performed Belina and Muxima, two classic compositions of Angolan music by Artur Nunes and the group Ngola Ritmos, respectively.

Before leaving the new Airport facilities, President João Lourenço made statements to the press, having spoken about the AIAAN privatization process, as well as other ongoing projects and portfolio, to boost the transport sector, in order to respond to the challenges of economic development.

Located in the urban district of Bom Jesus, municipality of Icolo and Bengo, the new airport infrastructure, valued at USD 2.8 billion, occupies a land area of 1324 hectares and can accommodate a cargo volume of 130 thousand tons/year.

According to technical studies, it is the third largest airport in Africa in terms of passenger volume per year. The expected number is 15 million passengers per year, 10 million on international flights and five million on domestic flights.
