Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the Episcopal Conference of Angola and São Tomé (CEAST), Dom José Imbamba, reiterated this Saturday, the need to strengthen citizenship and patriotic elevation, “so that the interests of the Nation are always above private objectives”.

Speaking on the occasion of the 48th anniversary of National Independence, Dom José Imbamba highlighted that these assumptions are fundamental for Angola to continue taking safe steps towards development, emancipation and inclusion.

“We increasingly need to invest in the affirmation of citizenship and patriotism and leave behind everything that delays our development and puts our reconciliation and unity in divergence at risk”, he stressed.

He called for the need to reinforce dialogue between different party forces, in the permanent search for consensus in various areas.

He urged the preservation of peace, reconciliation and national unity, thus valuing the efforts made by freedom fighters.

He assured that the Church will continue to develop its role as peacemaker, advising, whenever necessary, the main political authors, in the adoption of democratic, urban and patriotic positions.

The central event of the 48th anniversary of National Independence took place in Saurimo, Lunda Sul province, under the guidance of the Minister of State and head of the Civil House of the President of the Republic, Adão de Almeida.

In Lunda Norte, the commemoration of the anniversary was marked by the laying of wreaths on the bust of the first President of the Republic of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, in the center of the city of Dundo.
