Africa-Press – Angola. The First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, participates Saturday, in Freetown (Sierra Leone), in the celebrations of the first anniversary of the United Nations World Day for the Prevention and Healing of Children, Victims of Exploitation, Abuse and Sexual Violence .

The Angolan First Lady, whose visit to Sierra Leone will last three days, left Luanda last Friday, following an invitation from her counterpart Fátima Maada Bio.

The information, which appears in a note from the First Lady’s Office, adds that the mission is part of Ana Dias Lourenço’s sharing of experience and advocacy on issues of a social nature.

The anniversary, approved by the United Nations General Assembly, on November 7, 2022, results from a proposal by the First Lady of Sierra Leone, endorsed by African counterparts, in order to raise awareness of the high number of violations of children’s rights , in particular exploitation, abuse and sexual violence.

On the sidelines of the activity, the Angolan First Lady visits the Hospital Ship of the Mercy Ships Organization, in Freetown, at the invitation of the project’s founder, Don Stephen.

Mercy Ships is a Humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization that operates based on Christian principles and values, with the main objective of increasing access to health services in developing countries.

The institution pays particular attention to Africa, where it guarantees holistic support for various medical areas and specialties, including the training of health professionals.
