Africa-Press – Angola. The approval, in general, of the General State Budget Proposal (OGE) for the 2024 economic year, by the National Assembly (AN), marked the last seven days of political news.
The diploma, presented by the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, was approved with 111 votes in favor (MPLA, PHA and PRS/FNLA) and 74 votes against (UNITA) and no abstentions, at the First Ordinary Plenary Meeting of the 2nd Legislative Session of the Fifth Legislature of AN.
The proposed General State Budget (OGE) for 2024, which foresees a salary increase in the public sector of around 5 percent, includes estimated revenues of 24 billion Kwanzas and expenses set at the same amount.
In the same way, growth of 2.8 percent is estimated in 2024, essentially anchored by the non-oil sector, which is expected to grow 4.6 percent and a decrease in the oil sector with 2.6 percent.
In his message to Parliament before approval, the Holder of the Executive Branch, João Lourenço, states that the proposal pays special attention to reducing social inequalities and protecting the income of families and workers.
Read by the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, José de Lima Massano, the communication indicated that the OGE concentrates a 20% weight in the social sector, only surpassed by debt service.
Another highlight falls on the presidential audience, granted to the vice-president of the oil company ExxonMobil, Hunter Ferris, who announced, in the second half of next year, oil exploration in the Namibe basin.

It is also relevant to the agreement between Angola and the Democratic Republic (DRC), which agreed, in Luanda, to facilitate the granting of visas to economic operators at border posts, with a view to maintaining the free movement of people, goods, services and capital, between two countries.
In accordance with the recommendations of the second Angola-DRC Economic Forum, which took place from the 13th to the 14th of this month, the facilitation will allow harmonizing import duties and taxes, as well as reducing administrative costs on the Luvo to Cabinda, Noqui to Cabinda and vice versa, in order to facilitate trade.
