Secretary of State announces 21 Human Rights committees in Cuando Cubango

Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Cardoso Januário, announced, on Monday, in Menongue, in Cuando Cubango, the implementation, in 2024, of 21 communal “Human Rights” committees.

The objective is to promote, protect and defend the citizen.

The Secretary of State was speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 1st Provincial Conference on Human Rights in Cuando Cubango, lasting two days, promoted by the supervisory ministry, within the scope of the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy (ENDR).

He recalled that at the level of the 18 provinces there are functioning human rights committees and 164 municipal committees, pointing out as a challenge the creation of communal committees, so that citizens know their rights.

Ana Celeste Cardoso Januário said it is necessary for members of provincial committees to know human rights, especially for those people who do not yet understand the matter.

“It is also necessary to look at the rights of women and children, for whom Angolans need to know where they are in terms of implementing human rights and where they deserve greater attention, to have the initiative to report, when they are harmed. , and, this time, everyone participates responsibly in this process”, he highlighted.

For his part, the governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, admitted that, with the achievement of the purpose, the environment of a plural and democratic society will be strengthened, where the guarantee of citizens’ rights and freedoms are evident.

Topics such as the National Human Rights Strategy and Local Human Rights Committees, the situation of the provincial committee, the introduction of human rights, the process of drafting and presenting the situation of human rights and the mechanism for national and international protection of these rights are being analyzed.
