Africa-Press – Angola. The 3rd edition of the Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace – Luanda Biennial opened this Wednesday, in the Angolan capital, with the participation of more than 850 guests.
When delivering the welcome message, the coordinator of the Luanda Biennale, Dalva Ringote, stated that the African continent’s common objective is peace.
He highlighted that Angola is a country of peace and highlighted the efforts of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in pacifying the continent, particularly in the Great Lakes region.
For the Minister of State for the Social Area, peace must be the basis for progress, the development of States and human and technological capital and the inclusion of women.
For his part, the president of the African Union (AU) Commission, Moussa Mahamat, praised the engagement of the Angolan Head of State in organizing the event.
The Luanda Biennial will have as speakers the former Presidents of Nigeria, Mozambique and Malawi, namely Olusengu Obasanjo, Joaquim Chissano and Joyce Banda.
The list of speakers also includes the presidents of the African Union, Azali Assoumani, the AU Commission, Moussa Mahamat, and the advisor of this continental organization, Kgalema Motlanthe.
Confirmed are the presence of the Presidents of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, and Ethiopia, Sahle-WorkZewed, as well as the Vice-President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, and the Prime Minister of Guinea Equatorial, Manuela RokaBotey.
The event has six dialogue panels, in a round table format, with emphasis on the I Panel, called “High Level Intergenerational Dialogue”, which will have the Heads of State as speakers.
To ensure broad participation, the forum adopted a hybrid session format, with in-person and virtual participation on the first and second day.
The program also includes parallel activities, such as a musical concert by ResiliArt Angola, with Cape Verdean, Cameroonian and Angolan singers, an arts exhibition and a performance by the national dance group Sassa Tchokwé, as well as moments by gospel music artists .
Among the results expected in this edition, emphasis goes to the deepening of the sharing of visions on the culture of peace, security, African citizenship, democracy on the continent, with the construction of more peaceful societies, transforming attitudes and approaches in the fields of politics, economics and culture, to strengthen the pillars of the continent’s integral progress.
Coordination with the African Union is also expected for the preparation and implementation of the continent’s activities inherent to Peace and Reconciliation in Africa, due to the designation of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, as Champion of Peace and Reconciliation of the African Union.
The Luanda Biennale serves as a platform for implementing the “Action Plan for a Culture of Peace in Africa – Let us act for peace”, adopted in March 2013, in the Angolan capital, at the Pan-African Forum “Sources and Resources for a Culture of Peace”.
