France intends to strengthen cooperation ties and activities within the scope of the friendship group between the Angolan and French parliaments, announced, on Tuesday, in Luanda, the French ambassador, Sophie Aubert, after leaving an audience with the president of the Assembly Nacional, Carolina Cerqueira.

Sophie Aubert said that the audience with Carolina Cerqueira served as a courtesy visit, as she was new to the position and had not yet maintained contact with the leader of the Angolan Parliament. The diplomat made it known that, during the meeting, they discussed the exchange of experiences between the two countries, having taken advantage of the opportunity to invite the president of the National Assembly to visit France, in March 2024.

Another point of discussion was about cooperation ties in the areas of Education, Agriculture and Food Security. Sophie Aubert also informed that trade exchanges were also part of the agenda.

It should be noted that, in July this year, in a congratulatory message on France Day, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, expressed his desire to intensify bilateral cooperation in vital areas capable of boosting the country’s progress and development, as well as how to strengthen the action mechanisms of the European nation in favor of promoting the well-being of Humanity.

“I express to Your Excellency, on this occasion, the interest of the Government of the Republic of Angola in continuing to maintain the close ties of friendship that unite our two countries, as well as the dynamics that we decided to impart to our bilateral relationship, with the aim of expanding all existing partnerships, extending to new areas of joint and coordinated action between Angola and France”, said the Head of State, before wishing “best wishes for good health, personal well-being and prosperity for the French nation” .

France has maintained diplomatic relations with Angola since the proclamation of National Independence, on 11 November 1975. The first agreement signed, in 1982, laid the foundations for bilateral cooperation with one of the country’s main economic partners, responsible for a very large presence. strong in the Oil sector and intends to expand exchanges in other areas.

More than 70 French companies operate in Angola and provide around 10 thousand jobs.
