Africa-Press – Angola. One thousand and 519 diamond stones of various carats were seized by the Criminal Investigation Service in Lunda Norte (SIC), for illegal possession and trafficking, during a micro-operation.

The information was provided this Saturday, in Dundo, by the head of the Institutional Communication and Press department of the National Police, Domingos Muanafumo, highlighting that during the operation some means used for diamond mining and weighing the strategic mineral were also seized.

He said that one thousand and fifty US dollars were also seized, also in the possession of suspected drug traffickers.

Without revealing the number of alleged traffickers, he made it known that they are being detained, while the diamonds will be handed over to the “Operation Transfer” Registration Committee, based in Malanje.

In the same operation, he continued, 20 thousand liters of smuggled fuel were also seized, destined for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He highlighted the detention of 677 foreign citizens from the DRC for attempted illegal entry and exit into Angolan territory, through the border posts of Caungula, Chitato, Cuango, Cambulo and Lóvua.

According to the official, the immigrants intended to settle in diamond exploration areas and reach the country’s capital, Luanda.

He added that after administrative and migration procedures, they will be repatriated in their country of origin.
