Minister announces completion of re-registration of former combatants

Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade”, announced, this Thursday, the successful completion of the process of re-registration and proof of life of former combatants, disabled war and family members of fallen soldiers.

Speaking at the end-of-year greeting ceremony, he pointed out that the completion of this process will allow better control and increase of the merit pension for those assisted, with its inclusion in the State’s Integrated Financial Management System (SIGFE).

The sector also concluded the Proposed Law on the Special Protection Regime for Former Combatants and Veterans of the Country, which is awaiting approval.

In the field of social security for the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), the minister revealed that, in 2023, new beneficiaries were included in the pension payment system, between retirement and survival pensions.

He emphasized that the sector is engaged in changing the financing scenario of the FAA’s Social Protection System, creating investment alternatives and monetization of ISSFAA’s assets and implementation of Strategic and Business Plans, to make them less independent of the OGE.

Among the sector’s priorities for 2024, he highlighted the gradual implementation of the FAA resizing process, the mobilization of sustainable financing for the consolidation of programs within the military industry and the continuation of demining activities throughout the national territory.

Within the scope of the Defense industry, he assured that the focus is directed towards the consolidation of ongoing programs and the implementation of others, to ensure the FAA’s self-sustainability.

As part of the sector’s achievements, in 2023, the minister highlighted the inauguration of the Soyo Naval Base, the construction of the National and Regional coordination and Maritime Surveillance centers, the requalification of the Main Military Hospital/Higher Institute and the laying of the first stone for the construction of the new Luanda Military Hospital, in the Grafanil area, and the regional hospitals of Cabinda, Huambo and Moxico.

He also made reference to the consignment notice for the requalification of the Luanda Naval Base and the construction of the first barracks infrastructure in metallic structures.

He urged general officers, admirals, superiors, captains, ship’s lieutenants, subalterns, sergeants, enlisted personnel and civil servants to commit themselves increasingly to scheduled tasks and increase the level of discipline, patriotic spirit, cohesion and unity in action.
