Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic addressed, on Tuesday, a message of congratulations to the Cuban people, on the celebration of the Cuban Revolution, which took place on Monday, January 1st.
In the message, João Lourenço emphasizes that, on behalf of the Angolan Executive and himself, he takes the opportunity to express solidarity with the Republic of Cuba in the fight “it is waging for the defense of interests and the continuous affirmation of Cuban national sovereignty”, in whose context appreciates efforts to promote progress, development and social well-being of the Cuban people.
According to President João Lourenço, the friendship that unites the two peoples and countries is noteworthy, within the scope of the joint effort being undertaken to consolidate the existing bilateral cooperation relations between Angola and Cuba.
The Cuban Revolution was an armed and guerrilla movement led by Fidel Castro, which culminated in the dismissal of the dictatorship of Fulgencio Baptista of Cuba, on January 1, 1959. Angola and Cuba have historical political, diplomatic, economic, commercial and cultural ties, based on reciprocity of advantages, which date back several decades.
