A total of 106 thousand and 813 families, in the province of Cuanza-Sul, have already benefited from the “Kwenda” Social Protection System Strengthening Program, to date, and more than 930 billion 804 thousand kwanzas have been consumed.

The data was presented, in Ebo, by the director of the Institute for Integrated Development in Cuanza-Sul, Carolina Sanito, who spoke, yesterday, at the ceremony to hand over the fourth installment, in the towns of Quilundo and Kundi Velho.

Carolina Sanito made it known that the Kwenda program is expected to benefit at least 171,783 families in the province, remembering that, along the way, it had several stages that allowed it to evolve, increase the number of beneficiaries and value. At the start, each family received an estimated value of eight thousand kwanzas and, currently, it has risen to 11 thousand kwanzas, as a result of the results that the program is providing to the beneficiary families, since its implementation.

In the locations that were covered, in the municipality of Ebo, referring to Quilundo and Kundi Velho, the beneficiary families received 66 thousand Kz, corresponding to six months of the accumulated amount, in the amount of 11 thousand Kz per month.

Carolina Sanito said that the program covers families that are in a vulnerable situation, due to natural calamities and other factors, adding that of the 12 municipalities in the province, four have already benefited from ongoing amounts delivered to their respective families, six are registered, one with registration expected to begin soon.

The official also mentioned that Kwenda, in addition to monetary social transfers, also includes a social inclusion program and municipalization of Social Action, which are helping to improve the quality of life of the population in vulnerable situations.

He highlighted that families who did not receive the first installment will receive an estimated value of between 132 thousand kwanzas and 160 thousand kwanzas, due to the accumulation to date.

For his part, the Ebo administrator, António Kituchi, who witnessed the delivery of the monetary values of the first component of the Kwenda program, considered it an added value because it is empowering vulnerable families, allowing them to be economically empowered, a fact that has been minimizing the social and economic difficulties they faced and improving the living conditions of the populations in the region. In addition to this, he pointed out that the Local Development and Combating Poverty and Integrated Intervention programs for PIIM Municipalities have contributed significantly to improving the quality of life of the populations and led to the emergence of new infrastructures with social impact.

The Kwenda Program is an initiative of the Angolan Executive and partners, which aims to support families in situations of poverty and vulnerability and is valued at 420 million dollars, of which 320 million through the World Bank and 100 million financed by the National Treasury .

The FAS is the implementer of the Program, through the Ministry of Territorial Administration, endowed with financial and administrative autonomy, which, in coordination with other anti-poverty institutions, aims to contribute to the promotion of sustainable development of communities.
