Africa-Press – Angola. Twenty-five vulnerable families in the municipality of Menongue, province of Cuando Cubango, were awarded, on Friday, with basic necessities, distributed by the local government within the framework of the social intervention program.
These are citizens with a high degree of vulnerability, living in the Azul neighborhood, on the outskirts of the city of Menongue, capital of the province of Cuando Cubango.
Each family received an allocation consisting of five bags of 25 kilograms of rice, an equal amount of corn flour, five boxes of pasta of 20 units, a bag of sugar of 25 kilograms and an equal amount of beans, two bags of salt of 25 kilograms. kilograms, two 12-liter boxes of vegetable oil, household utensils, blankets, used clothing and mattresses.
The beneficiaries were also provided with work kits, motor pumps, wheelchairs, various horticultural seeds, hoes, axes, machetes, sprayers to increase agricultural production, mainly on the banks of the Cuebe River, among other products that will facilitate the creation of self-employment.
They were also given zinc sheets and doors, as ways of improving their living conditions.
Speaking to the Press, at the end of the handover, the governor of Cuando Cubango, José Martins, said it was a response to the appeal launched during the consultation on the preparation of the General State Budget (OGE-2024) 2024 in which the presence was raised from this fringe of society that lived in difficult conditions.
He assured that the government will continue to intervene to help the needy population whenever there is a need for this purpose, with many of them being included in the Monetary Social Transfer Program (Kwenda).
The aforementioned program, according to the governor, continues to have a positive evolution and impact on families, having already benefited more than 22 thousand families in the province of Cuando Cubango, in the municipalities of Cuito Cuanavale, Cuchi and Rivungo, and, at the moment, it is to register other households in Cuangar, followed by the municipalities of Calai, Dirico and Mavinga; Nankova and Menongue.
Data on the state of play of the Social Action, Family and Gender Equality sector, show the assistance, in 2023, of 39 thousand 439 families that are in a situation of vulnerability and extreme poverty, in addition to the 190 households covered by the “Mamã Levanta” program, which aims to empower 500 families across the province.
Located in the eastern region of the country, Cuando Cubango has an estimated population of 700 thousand inhabitants, distributed across nine municipalities, namely Calei, Cuangar, Cuchi, Cuito Cuanavale, Dirico, Mavinga, Nancova and Rivungo.
