Africa-Press – Angola. The rescue of the National football title for a lost amputee, in 2023, constitutes the main motivation for the Misto do Huambo, which continued, this Thursday afternoon, to Luanda, the stage for the 18th edition.

The desire was expressed by the team’s coach, Hélder Gomes, who said he had assembled a motivated team capable of regaining the title of national champion.

He mentioned that the objective of Misto do Huambo is to win, firstly, the Super Cup against the Benguela counterpart and, then, the 18th edition of the National Championship, taking place from the 10th to the 17th of this month, in Luanda (capital of country).

Hélder Gomes added that the team prepared in detail to avoid surprises, with 12 athletes very motivated and confident in winning the title, which escaped them in the last edition.

He said that the drop from first to fifth place in the classification table of the last edition of the National Football Championship for amputees caused great concerns among lovers and the Provincial Association of the sport in Huambo, hence the hard and organized work developed.

Returning to the competition podium, he stressed, is an objective of the technical team, athletes, the sport’s association and the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office in the province of Huambo.

Without announcing the squad, Hélder Gomes informed that the team is leaving for the competition with the absence of athletes Elias, Sebastião, captain Laurindo, Abel, Eduardo, due to health issues and other obstacles.

In turn, the president of the Paralympic Sports Association in the province of Huambo, Jaime Loureiro Chilala, said that all bureaucratic issues related to the logistics of athletes in the country’s capital have been taken care of.

He said that the Huambo team will compete in the Angolan Super Cup and the National Championship to win, given the confidence and motivation of the athletes.

In the last edition (XVII) of the national championship, held in Ndalatando, capital of the province of Cuanza Norte, the Misto do Huambo team lost the opportunity to revalidate the title of champion, after qualifying in fifth place.

The same was achieved by Misto de Benguela, after beating 1o de Junho B from Luanda, 3-0, in the final game.

The Mixed football team with crutches in the province of Huambo has five National Football Championship titles for amputees, won in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2022, in addition to three Angola cups and the same number of Super Cups.
