Luanda Hosts World Electric Boat Race in September

Africa-Press – Angola. The city of Luanda will host a stage of the “E1 League” World Electric Boat Championship, taking place this year in September 14th and 15th, in an initiative aimed at promoting the “Blue Economy” and Angola’s tourism potential.

The official launch, which took place this Thursday (26th) in the Angolan capital, was conducted by the minister of Tourism, Márcio Daniel, and was attended by international film star Will Smith, co-founder of the “Team Westbrook” team, a partner of the Visit Angola brand.

On the occasion, the minister of Tourism highlighted that Luanda is the second African city to host a stage of this competition, an event that has already passed through cities such as Monaco, Dubai and Lagos (Nigeria), using nautical sports to convey messages of sustainability and preservation of marine ecosystems through the use of renewable energies.

In turn, the secretary of State for Tourism, Augusto Kalikemala, considered that the presence of globally renowned figures, such as Will Smith, constitutes a message of openness and security, reaffirming Angola’s capacity to host major international events and personalities, promoting the country’s image.

“The arrival of a celebrity with this visibility conveys confidence and stability, fundamental elements to promote the country as a safe tourist destination,” highlighted the Angolan official.

The secretary of State added that the intention is to capitalize on this partnership to attract a greater flow of visitors to the country.

He emphasized that the September event should attract other world personalities to Luanda who are owners or co-founders of E1 League teams, from the areas of sports, technology and music, notably Tom Brady (NFL legend), LeBron James (NBA star), Didier Drogba (former Ivorian footballer) and Steve Aoki (DJ and music producer).

Augusto Kalikemala emphasized that the championship attracts an ecosystem of enthusiasts for technological innovation and environmental protection, representing a strategic opportunity for Angola to demonstrate its potential in the management of marine resources and in diversifying its national tourism offerings.
