Africa-Press – Angola. The policies outlined by the Executive, with a view to benefiting the community abroad, were presented, on Saturday, to young Angolans residing in Montevideo, Uruguay, by the general director of the Institute of Communities Abroad and Consular Services (ICAESC), Maria Filomena António.

According to a note sent, during the meeting with community members, Maria Filomena António, in addition to summarizing the Executive’s policies, called for the need for Angolans in Uruguay to respect the laws of the countries in which they reside. and honor Angola’s good name.

The diplomat also advised members of the community to approach the sad phenomenon of racism with caution, as “it cannot be a reason to lose focus”, having recommended that Angolans ignore it and pursue the objectives outlined.

Community members participating in the meeting confirmed the existence of racism in the country, although on a small scale. The lack of equipment for issuing the Identity Card at the Consulate level is another topic discussed with the community in Montevideo.

Angolan residents, the note states, claimed that in order to obtain the important national citizenship document, they are forced to travel to the city of São Paulo, in Brazil, with all the costs inherent to travel.

Strengthening cooperation

Friendship and cooperation relations between Uruguay and Angola could reach a new stage this year, said the provincial governor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, recently.

The official made these statements during a courtesy meeting with the Angolan delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by the director of Directorate America, Felisberto Martins, who is visiting that country at the invitation of local authorities.

Ana Carolina Cosse, who is also a candidate for the leftist Frente Amplió party in the internal elections, said that, if she wins, she will run for the position of President of the Republic, in an event scheduled for next November.

“I have always followed the news about the political and economic development of African countries. Therefore, I congratulate the Government of Angola for the gains made in recent years”, he stated.

For ambassador Felisberto Martins, the country will continue to work on strengthening cooperation, highlighting that Uruguay is a strategic state for Angola’s interests in South America.

At the end of the meeting, the head of the Angolan delegation and the governor of Montevideo exchanged gifts that symbolize the culture of both countries.
