Africa-Press – Angola. Road circulation on the bridge over the river Lucala 1, on Estrada Nacional 230, Cuanza-Norte, is restricted, due to the collapse of one of the plates of the metallic structure, which caused cracks and unevenness in the infrastructure.
Circulation was restricted to one lane in both directions, following instructions from the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos Alberto dos Santos.
According to the leader, who was speaking to the press on Saturday at the end of a two-day working visit to the province of Cuanza-Norte, the situation is worrying due to the fact that there has been a collapse in the bridge, which will require urgent intervention.
Carlos Alberto dos Santos informed that in order to avoid traffic accidents, technicians from various State bodies are carrying out appropriate signage on the bridge, in order to avoid circulation on the roadway where the sign gave way.
He explained that the Ministry of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing will proceed, under an emergency contracting regime, with the awarding of works to requalify the infrastructure that allows road circulation for the eastern provinces of the country and for the neighboring Democratic Republics of Congo and Zambia.
On the other hand, Carlos Alberto dos Santos expressed satisfaction with the completion of the construction work on bridges over the Capacala rivers, in the city of Dondo, in Cambambe and over the Zenza river, in the municipality of Ngonguembo.
The bridge over the Capacala River, costing more than four billion kwanzas, is a mixed infrastructure (concrete and metal). It is 40 meters long and 11 meters wide.
It was built to replace the previous one, destroyed by floods in May 2021, which also affected the Cacesse neighborhood (Dondo).
The bridge over the Zenza River, 60 meters long and 15 meters wide, is part of the construction package for the Cambondo (Golungo Alto)/ Ngonguembo road.
