Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, attended this Sunday the state funeral of the former President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, at Memorial Heroes’ Acre, approximately 15 kilometers from the center of Windhoek.

Accompanied by the First Lady, the President of the Republic, also acting President of SADC, had already participated, on Saturday, at the Independence Stadium, also in the Namibian capital, in another State funeral ceremony, for the physical death of Hage Geingob, which occurred on 4 February, victim of cancer.

In addition to different Heads of State or their representatives, and former Statesmen, hundreds of people, mostly dressed in black, went to the place to say a final goodbye to the considered “President of the people”.

The laying of the Statesman’s body in the space dedicated to honoring and venerating the spirit of heroines and heroes was preceded by a religious moment, followed by a brief speech by the new President, Nangolo Mbumba.

He will serve his mandate until March 21, 2025, the date of inauguration of the winner of the November elections of this year.

Prime Minister of Namibia twice (1990-2002 and 2012-2015), Geingob came to power in March 2015, before being re-elected in 2019.

Geingob was the third President of Namibia, a country that became politically independent from South Africa in 1990.
