Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted, this Wednesday, in Paris (France), the benefits of peace in Angola that can serve as an example for the world.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Summit of Presidents of Parliaments worldwide, Carolina Cerqueira mentioned the opportunity that peace offers for equality, equity for women, the promotion of their rights and their inclusion in political decision-making processes.

​The parliamentarian highlighted the need to educate girls on their rights, so that they are interested in politics in the future, professional technical training as a mechanism for social inclusion, the prevention of early pregnancy and premature marriages.

In the same sense, she highlighted that the parliaments’ agenda encourages women parliamentarians to support policies in favor of peace and food and nutritional security, democracy and support for vulnerable populations and a greater voice for women, courage and determination to help to improve societies in African countries.

The leader of the Angolan parliament also highlighted the role of women in Southern Africa for stability, security and peace in the region and for the progress of their countries.

Carolina Cerqueira thanked the president of the French National Assembly for the invitation to African countries, namely Angola, Tanzania, Zambia, Mozambique, Malawi and São Tomé and Príncipe to look into current problems that affect women’s lives, their autonomy and political and social inclusion.

For her part, the president of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Heven, highlighted the significant growth of women as political leaders in parliaments around the world, emphasizing the importance of deepening women’s rights, such as health and education.

The official celebrated the recent inclusion of the right to terminate pregnancy in the French constitution, thus marking a global historical advance.

The 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Oleksandra Matviichuk, shared the resilience and determination of Ukrainian women in the last two years.

In a hopeful manner, he expressed optimism about the increased international response to the needs of women affected by the conflict.

Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who delivered a video speech, highlighted the fundamental role of women in defending democracy and emphasized the continued importance of progress in gender equality, both in times of war and peace. , highlighting that investing in women’s education is the key to a more prosperous future.

The first day’s program culminated with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to women’s political rights and a visit to the French hemicycle.

The event has, for the first day, a conference on inspiring female personalities and the inauguration of an exhibition dedicated to women’s political rights, in the Gallery of Festivities of the National Assembly of France.

The second day of work includes two round tables on education for equality, the fight against violence against women and health, as well as equality and parity in politics and the affirmation of female role models.

The Angolan delegation includes representatives Rosa Branca Albino, from the MPLA Parliamentary Group, Albertina Navita Ngolo Felisberto, from the UNITA Parliamentary Group, and Florbela Malaquias, from the Humanist Party of Angola (PHA).​
