Africa-Press – Angola. The specialist in Political Strategy and Image Consulting, João Pedro, defended, this Friday, in Huambo, the qualified training of citizens in the field of new technologies, to detect false information spread.

João Pedro made this statement during the Aula Magna under the motto “Connect and Communicate for Citizenship”, the focus of the II Consultative Council of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), which has as its stage the Journalist Training Center (CEFOJOR) in Huambo, under the motto “Connect and Communicate for Citizenship”.

According to João Pedro, in order to keep up with the dynamics of information and communication technologies, greater education is necessary for people, as false news has a negative influence on public opinion and contributes to the way in which day-to-day events are perceived.

This is content designed to provoke emotional reactions in people, generating various manipulations, which, if the citizen is not educated, could be induced to judge the fact in the wrong way.

“The lower the quality of education and training of citizens, the greater the possibility of having a society that is unstructured, uninformed and without belief in institutions” he highlighted.

He said that the loss of trust in institutions, caused by false news, constitutes the greatest danger in contemporary society and can lead to social degradation.

To this end, João Pedro said it is a challenge for MINTTICS to be able to regulate and punish those who practice this false news on digital platforms, without violating the right to information.

He called for more responsible journalism, with the ability to verify facts, given the fundamental role played by the media in combating “Fake News”, through a robust, fast and highly professional system.

He said that, between 2022 and 2023, Angola took significant steps in the field of use of information and social communication technologies, of which 30 percent are on the social network Facebook.

The II Consultative Council of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS) was preceded by methodological meetings of the directors of offices and managers of public Social Communication companies, guided by the Secretary of State for Social Communication, Nuno Caldas Albino.

During the activities, among others, “Strategic communication and crisis communication”, “Communication offices manual”, “The Executive’s institutional communication strategy in the internal variant” “Digital communication actions”, “The Angola Hoje portal and TV Angola-Institucional “General Census of Population and Housing” and “50 years of National Independence”.

At the same time, methodological meetings also took place with the press attachés of the Diplomatic Missions abroad and the Telecommunications and Information Technologies sector, the latter being guided by the Secretary of State for this subsector, Pascoal Borges Alé Fernandes.

For the second and last day (Saturday), among other sessions, the approach around the restructuring, modernization program and the challenges of public companies is planned.

Afterwards, thematic meetings will be held with the directors of the Institutional Communication and Press and Social Communication offices of the provincial governments, with the press attachés of the Diplomatic Missions abroad, with the directors of Telecommunications and Information Technologies, as well as with those responsible for Records and Modernization of local Administration.
