Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, stated this Friday, in Beijing, that the People’s Republic of China is an essential partner, with which he intends to expand the strategic partnership.

When speaking in a meeting with the president of the National People’s Assembly of China (Parliament), Zhao Leji, João Lourenço defended, in order to fulfill this aim, more regular political consultations at all levels.

According to the President, these consultations must cover, in addition to the governments, the political parties that lead the two States, namely the Chinese Communist Party and MPLA (Angola).

João Lourenço understands that holding more regular political consultations would help to dilute possible misunderstandings, contribute to international issues of common interest, and create the basis for greater convergence of points of view, aiming to meet the concerns of each party.

Global peace and security

On the other hand, the Angolan statesman welcomed the various initiatives launched by President Xi Jinping focused on international security, the sustainable development of humanity and respect for the diversity of civilizations.

He pointed out that they are related to global security, global development and global civilization, principles and values common to China and Angola, of universal scope such as the peaceful resolution of conflicts through inclusive dialogue.

He recalled that the Angolan Executive has also been committed to resolving the conflicts that plague several countries on the African continent, stressing that he intends to share the results achieved in this regard, as well as perspectives regarding their treatment and definitive resolution.

“Africa faces several challenges in terms of security and the issue of peace and stability as unavoidable factors for progress and development was of great concern to Africans”, he said.

Issues relating to peace, he said, are part of the central concerns of the Government of Angola and in this chapter “I myself, mandated by the African Union, have acted to resolve the various conflicts in Africa, mainly in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo”.

President João Lourenço has been in the Chinese capital since Thursday, leading a ministerial delegation that will discuss the new terms of bilateral cooperation.

For three days, delegations from Angola and China will reassess the instruments governing bilateral cooperation and identify new areas for strategic partnership outside the domain of oil, Angola’s biggest currency.

Before the meeting with the President of Parliament, the Head of State met with the Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang.

For this first day, a meeting is scheduled between João Lourenço and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
