Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço handed over on Saturday the presidency of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) to Teodoro Obiang Nguema, President of Equatorial Guinea, during the 11th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization.
This marks the end of Angola’s two-year term as president of the OACPS, during which time the country promoted institutional reforms, strengthened strategic partnerships and fostered a new approach to cooperation among member states.
In his opening speech at the summit, João Lourenço highlighted the progress achieved during Angola’s presidency, including the consolidation of relations with the European Union (EU), the institutionalization of internal decision-making mechanisms and the commitment to mobilizing financial resources for the organization.
The OACPS comprises approximately 79 states from the African, Caribbean and Pacific regions, and serves as a platform for international coordination and cooperation in pursuit of sustainable development and the defense of common interests on the global stage.
