Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Government plans to invest 14 billion kwanzas in implementing the first phase of the Directed Self-Construction Program, which has already identified around 325 thousand lots, in 16 provinces of the country.
The fact was revealed this Tuesday, in Luanda, by the Minister of Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos dos Santos, highlighting that the respective investment will serve to subdivide and reinforce water and electricity capacity on land already infrastructured.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the 1st ordinary meeting of the Economic Commission of the Council of Ministers, chaired by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the government official clarified that the first phase of the program, whose funding is foreseen in the General State Budget (OGE) of 2024, will cover land with minimum infrastructure.
For this endeavor, the minister highlighted that, at this stage, around 325 thousand identified lots are available in 16 provinces of the country, with the exception of the provinces of Moxico and Cuando Cubango.
According to Carlos dos Santos, these lands will be the priority for implementing the project.
The minister clarified that the first stage consists of identifying already urbanized land, with 19 centralities being identified, with the availability of water, electricity and access roads.
He added that, for the second phase, it is only planned to subdivide and order the land to be handed over to citizens with due legal security, leaving the issue of infrastructure for later or when financial resources are available.
He further stated that, in 2025, all provinces and municipalities should have funds for subdivision and urban requalification, within the scope of the Directed Self-Construction Program, which aims to make 910 thousand and 600 plots of land available to national citizens who wish to make their dream of a house come true own.
Approved by the Angolan Executive, on May 30, 2023, the program aims to reduce the current housing deficit in Angola, estimated at 49% (2.2 million homes).
Currently, the country has 28 centralities, eight urbanizations and 12 social housing projects, which totals 350 thousand homes available to citizens, according to the Minister of Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing, Carlos dos Santos.
