Africa-Press – Angola. The United States of America (USA) has supported Angola over the last 25 years, with 1.5 billion dollars, invested in improving the country’s health system, USAID representative William Butterfield said this Thursday in Luanda.
The information was provided during the visit of a delegation of United States senators to the Technical Institute of Health, which aimed to monitor the progress made and assess the impact of the initiative on the lives of Angolans.
According to William Butterfield, the funding served to promote family planning, help in the fight against malaria, HIV and end COVID-19 in Angola.
The support also aimed to train health personnel, purchase essential medicines and vaccines and strengthen local laboratories.
The official said that this funding has been well used, and in 2023, more than three million people will benefit from medicines and tests to diagnose malaria.
Among the activities carried out to help reduce cases of malaria and HIV, several works are being carried out in rural areas, including the delivery of mosquito nets, medicines and diagnostics.

In turn, the Minister of Health of Angola, Sílvia Lutucuta, considered the visit carried out by the Angolan senators to be commendable, mainly because it was in an institution where health training begins.
He recognized the support of the American government, through USAID, which involved important programs, such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, family planning and teaching and learning of health professionals.
According to the minister, the results are fruitful and many are linked to training.
He made it known that there are five schools in the country supported by USAID.
He highlighted that it is necessary to continue to perpetuate this strategic partnership with the health sector.
He highlighted that staff training continues to be a major concern, having reiterated the implementation of the plan that envisages training more than 38 thousand specialized professionals.
