Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s ambassador to Ethiopia and permanent representative to the African Union (AU), Miguel César Domingos Bembe, and his Indian counterpart, Anil Kumar Rai, discussed, on Friday, in Addis Ababa, issues of interest to both countries, with emphasis on aspects of multilateral cooperation.
In detail, Ambassador Miguel Bembe informed his interlocutor of the processes carried out by Angola within the scope of the continental organization, highlighting the actions of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in his capacity as AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa and as Mediator in the conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and neighboring Rwanda.
He highlighted India’s multidimensional contribution to carrying out missions to support peace operations in various regions of the African continent and explained the importance of the AU’s Peace and Security Council (PSC), as a permanent decision-making body for prevention, management and resolution peace of conflicts and which acts as a collective and early warning structure to facilitate, in a timely manner, an effective response to conflict and crisis situations in Africa.
The two diplomats emphasized the relevance of the AU Agenda 2063, called “The Africa we want”, admitting the existence of opportunities for India in terms of investment in the areas of agriculture, construction of roads and railways, and textile and pharmaceutical industries.
They also discussed the main objectives of Agenda 2063 and identified actions with a view to accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA), one of the most emblematic projects of the African Union.
